New Consultation on Local Plan ahead

Will Goostrey still be incorrectly categorised as a Local Service Centre?

Cheshire East’s Strategic Planning Board are due to review a revised draft of the Local Plan on Sept 26th.  This will then be followed by a six week public consultation.  It must be then signed off by the government’s Planning Inspectorate before the final Local Plan can be adopted – setting out where developments can take place over the next 20 years.

As Goostrey was initially classified as the same as Holmes Chapel (a Local Service Centre) let’s hope the new draft has been amended.

“Campaigners are demanding that the council publishes an independent report which has identified flaws in its controversial draft housing strategy. The report was commissioned by Cheshire East Council into its Local Plan.

Council bosses are refusing, saying it is private.  But a summary of the report has been released and it identifies ‘gaps’ in the Local Plan and several ways in which it must improve.

The summary, which was provided by Adrian Fisher, Cheshire East Council’s planning chief, in a letter to parish councillors, states: “The plan is underpinned by extensive evidence – but this needs to be completed and while much is underway, there remain gaps to be filled.” It concluded that more work was required to ensure the Local Plan was sound.

  1. For info. An appeal has been submitted against the refusal of application 12/4318C for 3 houses adjacent to 51 Main Road Goostrey. If this appeal is upheld it will open the gates for other sites in “open countryside” to be developed, i.e. Mill Lane Field, the Grange Station Road, behind Mount Pleasant and behind the Main Road Victorian houses. Last dates for comment 16th September. Public Enquiry planned by Inspector.
