Cost of Neighbourhood Plan: case studies

MP Fiona Bruce has strongly advised Goostrey residents and community leaders to urgently consider creating a Neighbourhood Plan, pointing out that they carry statutory weight and can influence Inspectors on Planning Appeals.  It is therefore worth considering the costs involved.  Estimates of between £20,000 and £80,000 were quoted at the recent GPC extraordinary meeting but case studies below point to a more reasonable amount – [albeit costs were mitigated by residents volunteering their time, available skill-sets and resources e.g. architect, project manager, graphic designer etc].

Case studies examples of costs of Neighbourhood Plans:
£10,450 costs exeter_st James
£14,312  costs broughton_astley Population village 10,000
£4,220 costs strumpshaw   Population 600.

  1. Thanks for the post. In advance of any decision by GPC and to get things moving positively, perhaps we should prepare a list of residents who are willing to offer their services – free of charge. If this is considered a goer then count me in.

  2. Count me in too! [Great! We could do with knowing what skills people can offer; e.g. design/planning/project management/local government etc. I’m happy to provide time too and space on LoveGoostrey website. LG ]

    • Does GPC actually have to consent to doing a Neighbourhood Plan? Can this be progressed without their support? Who owns the Plan?

  3. It will have to be led by Goostrey PC . They will hopefully decide on December 9th whether to go ahead. Then engage with the whole village right from the start of the process, so that it represents the village’s wants and needs.
