Quarry near Jodrell may cease

Residents are concerned about a potential silica sand quarry between New Platt Lane and Goostrey Lane.  As yet no planning application has been submitted but a request for an EIA screening opinion has been posted on Cheshire East’s planning portal by Sibelco: 15/2390S.  This area may extend the former quarries at Brick Bank Lane and Shakerley Mere which were last quarried over 4O years ago.

It looks like Sibelco may cease silica sand mining operations next year at Dingle Bank Quarry, near Jodrell Bank, after nearly 80 years of quarrying. Dingle Bank Quarry has been up for sale (see post below from rightmove), but who has purchased it is uncertain:

see  Quarry for Sale/Rightmove.

An article a few years ago indicated Dingle Bank quarry would be restored, however current plans for restoration are not known.

As we hear more news LoveGoostrey will keep you informed of developments.
