Gold from Rio to Goostrey!

Olympian Paul Bennett brought his Gold Medal to Goostrey last week to show his family.

Now based in Leeds rower Paul, who won Gold in Rio with the Men’s eight, used to live in Goostrey when he was little along with his grandparents on Mill Lane and attend the Methodist Hall pre-school.
Paul, an Oxford Blue, is the tallest rower in the GB squad at 6’8″; pictured here in yellow on the pre-school’s Goostrey Rose Day float in 1992. (I note in the photo that his ‘flame’ had gone out – certainly not the case in Rio this summer!)

Many congratulations to Paul and thanks to his mother Anne Bennett for the information.
