David Giles District Commissioner Alderley

David Giles, 1st Goostrey’s Group Scout Leader since September 2012, has been appointed District Commissioner for Scouts for the Alderley District (covering Handforth, Lindow, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Goostrey and Holmes Chapel).  Generations of young people in Goostrey will benefit from his imagination and drive in pushing forward the plan for the new Scout Hut and Youth Centre.

Neil Memmott has taken over as Group Scout Leader for Goostrey and has appointed Colin Mottershead, currently Assistant Group Scout Leader, as Group Chairman, we wish them all well.  In his speech David Giles described Neil as ” a truly inspirational Scout Leader who has enriched the lives of many young people during his time at Goostrey” and asked the community to give him their full support as the new GSL.

David continued, ” It has been an honour to lead the team at Goostrey Scouts for the last six years.  It is thanks to the dedication and commitment of the superb team, and the generosity and support of the community, that we have succeeded in building a new Scout Hut and Youth facility in our village.  We are hopeful that we will have raised sufficient money by the end of this year to repay our loan in full.  I am very happy that I shall be succeeded by someone so capable and with such dedication to Scouting as Neil Memmott.”

Kit Tomkinson, who has been the Group Chairman of 1st Goostrey since May 2012 is to join David as Chairman of Alderley District.

David and Kit were both presented with a framed and signed photograph of all the Scout Leaders in front of the Hut at the formal opening in May 2017.  As well as scouts, leaders, young leaders and parents the BBQ was also attended by Cllr Peter Godfrey and Cllr Terence Rathbone from the parish council.
