New hedge despite the drizzle

Many hands make light work……

More than fifty people of all ages turned up today, armed with spades and good humour, to help with the latest community planting session hosted by 1st Goostrey Scout Group.

Even the drizzle did not deter families and friends from “getting stuck in” planting fruit trees and whips to make a new hedge along the footpath at the Turf Fields behind Mount Pleasant in Goostrey.

Cub Leader Paul Kemsley, who led this community planting event to make more homes for wildlife, said: “I was overwhelmed by the turnout this morning, particularly having brought forward the timing in case of the onset of stormy weather later in the day. I must thank all the cubs and scouts from 1st Goostrey and their families, and all from Goostrey Guiding and the wider community who helped to get the planting finished in just two hours. I also wish to thank Carbutt’s Turf, the kind landowners & Goostrey Parish Council for supplying the damson trees. Special thanks to Andy Lintell for keeping us in hot drinks And the good cows of the Bidlea herd for the vital manure”

“We are hoping to continue to make more local homes for wildlife, and If any other landowners have land near a footpath, where they would like to have more trees planted, I ask them to contact me on paulkemsley72@btinternet.com.”
