League promotion for Goostrey Men’s Tennis team

Congratulations to the ‘Men’s A’ team from Goostrey Tennis Club having been promoted from 4th to 2nd division for the upcoming Winter League matches, following a highly successful 12 months of competing.

This marks a ‘first’ for Goostrey Tennis Club – their highest divisional placing in 23 years, since joining the South & Mid-Cheshire Tennis League in 1997.

Having won both last winter’s and this spring’s league, they were well-placed at the start of the recent summer season for League matches. As they then came second in the summer league, competing against top teams from Congleton, Cuddington, Holmes Chapel and Nantwich, they were promoted up two divisions.

Accolades over the past 12 months also include winning the Winter League Knock-out trophy. Team Captain Andrew Brierley said: “Goostrey Men’s A Team had another great year. We’ve got some strong players, and it’s been hugely rewarding – and great fun – to have won many matches at home and away, and seen the team promoted to our highest-ever league ranking. Thanks go to all the players, and also to those who support the Men’s B team in flying the flag for Goostrey Tennis Club in our county area League.”

Goostrey Men’s A team members include Andrew Brierley, Luke Brierley, Jason Lynch, Richard Saxton, Mike Saxton and Simon Barlow.

Besides League competitive tennis, Goostrey Tennis Club also offers social tennis on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons, with frequent American Tournaments for all ages and abilities, plus a regular programme of junior coaching. To find out more, visit the club’s website.
