Bluedot festival boosts Scouts' fundraising

It’s great to see that work has started on the new Scout Hut and Youth Centre – and the fundraising received a very welcome boost of over £2,700 from the Jodrell Bank’s recent Bluedot Festival at the end of July.

David Giles, Group Scout Leader said: “Goostrey Scouts were honoured to be named as one of the four chosen charities of the Bluedot music and science festival held at Jodrell Bank and delighted to receive a most generous cheque for more than £2,700 from the organisers.
“Following the £50,000 grant from grant-funding body WREN, matched by the generous donation of the same amount from Goostrey Parish Council, the construction work has started. During the school holidays, work has been progressing well on the site of the new building opposite the Crown Inn on Main Road, Goostrey. The ground work has now been completed, foundations have been laid and residents will soon see that the steel work for the building frame will be erected shortly.”
Ben Robinson, Festival Director at Bluedot, said: Bluedot is a new festival of discovery held for the first time this year at Jodrell Bank on 22-24 July. Festival goers were treated to a stellar programme of music, science, arts, culture and the exploration of space. The extensive line-up was headlined by Underworld, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Caribou. We are keen to support local community initiatives, and were happy to make a donation to the Scouts’ ambitious project to build a new Scout Hut and Youth Centre for local young people.”
David went on: “Although Goostrey Scouts have raised more than £200,000 towards the estimated £250,000 building cost of the new building, we are grateful for every donation and contribution to help us to meet the shortfall, as every pound counts. It is our aim to get the new Scout Hut and Youth Centre built as soon as possible to provide a much needed meeting place for local young people.”
