There was a great occasion at the weekend on the Booth Bed Lane Playing Field. The 6th annual Simon Weston Trophy Match resulted in a hard-fought 2-1 victory for the West of the village. I’m not sure it matters who won as, most importantly, £1130 was raised for the Remembering Nell Foundation from a wonderful community event. Well done all!
The organisers would like to pass on many thanks to all who attended.
Goostrey Juniors FC U14s team is having a fantastic season, currently top of the division within the Mid Cheshire Youth League.
In addition to success at home, the team has been given the opportunity to participate in a European tournament in Lisbon at the end of May, for which they are currently fundraising:
QUIZ NIGHT: Quiz Night in the Crown Inn on Tuesday 26th February, 7.30/8pm. This will be a general knowledge quiz; cost £3 per person – bring a group of friends.
CAR WASH: On 2nd March we are planning to run a Car Wash in the Crown car park 10-3pm.
Do come down with your dirty vehicles – £5 a car, £10 for a 4 x 4 or a van.
The Crown Inn plans to open early to serve bacon butties!
“We have been very grateful for the generous sponsorship by the Crown Inn last year, and are currently looking for sponsorship for the 2019-20 season. Are you interested in supporting the team?” Please contact Jason Lynch (Chair) on 532066 / 07833775641 or Sue Mottershead (Secretary) on 534760 / 07952 550696. “Do support us in our cause and feel free to come down to watch our matches when we are at home – Sundays from 10.30 – you will be made very welcome.”

“We are lucky to be using the excellent facilities the VHPFF have to offer, both for training and home matches (the envy of many opposing teams!) and have a wonderful committee headed by Jason Lynch, with excellent management of the boys by Rob Kennerley and Steve Lord.”
In this Internet age, where screens seem to govern the lives of the younger members of our community, how refreshing it is to have a group of teenage lads keen to spend time running around getting fresh air and exercise in a competitive environment. Watch out for future updates of their progress!
The VHPFF trustees hope to replace the dilapidating bowling huts at the playing fields to provide WCs and improved scoring accommodation.
The planning application for a new Bowling Hut will be proposed for on the same site as the existing huts (rather than a new hall or extension of the pavilion) and will require external funding.
