In Practice

Plenty of toot and trundling has been seen and heard along our leafy lanes this Summer. I have just heard a hoot and am looking forward to hearing more this afternoon as the traction engine rolls along main road, for the Goostrey Rose Queen Ceremony.

So where did Rose Day stem from? Where has May Day originated from?,

Previously, I lived on the Derbyshire and Cheshire border, close to The Cat and Fiddle and the hamlet of Wildboarclough hosted a Rose Queen Ceremony at the foothills of The Peak District National Park.

May Pole dancing, a sheep-shearing competition, sprint up a mountain with a cheese-ball and chase it down the cobbles.

Then, there were bric-a-brac and book stalls, plant sales and the W.I selling jams, cakes and tea. The children skipped in long grass and watched bunnies in a meadow.

Today, was lovely to see the Rose Day procession with many spectators keeping to the rules on social distancing. Thank you to the Rose Day Community and, all you special people that made Rose Day 2021 happen.

Nice go hear a hoot
