You may have noticed that the old youth centre [and former village hall] opposite the Crown Inn has gone!
As David Giles, Group Scout Leader for 1st Goostrey Scouts, said: “It’s the beginning of a new era for the young people of Goostrey – with a bespoke new Scout Hut and Youth Centre set to rise like a phoenix on this site in the course of the next two years.”
David added “I’ve been moved by all the different ways people in the local community are endeavouring to raise funds for the creation of the new Scout Hut and Youth Centre.”
David paid a visit to Goostrey Brownies recently to thank and congratulate two enterprising young Brownies for their wonderful personal contribution to the new Scout Hut and Youth Centre. Cate Clayton and Charlotte Madden-Kinsey teamed up to grow flowers from seeds over the summer and sold them – making a fantastic £40 profit, which they have donated towards the building of the new centre. David said: “I pay tribute to Cate and Charlotte for their enterprise and enthusiasm. It is humbling that the girls have made such an effort.“
The Scout Hut fund raising campaign also received a welcome boost thanks to Freemasons living in Goostrey, who donated £250. This is the second donation from Freemasons living in our village and David thanks them sincerely for their kind donation and continued support.
Twemlow Parish Council is to make another much appreciated contribution to the scout hut – which will serve young people from Twemlow as well as Goostrey and other adjacent parishes.
David also expressed his thanks to the many members of the 1st Goostrey Scouting family who volunteered their time to cook and serve BBQ food at the Goosfest Folk in the Marquee weekend during, raising £400 towards the Scout Hut and Youth Centre.
