Goostrey Footpaths Group is an informal group of volunteers who work in co-operation with Goostrey Parish Council and Cheshire East Council Public Rights of Way Unit to maintain and improve rural footpaths around the village, making them more enjoyable and accessible to all, and to encourage the use of these footpaths. The first edition of the Group’s principal publication ‘More Goostrey Walks and Strolls’ sold 950 copies. The second edition, produced in full colour for the Millennium, has also sold around 2000 copies but is unfortunately now out of print.
However we are delighted that our friends at Love Goostrey have put an online version of the book on their website. This is available now to download and print off as you wish for free from www.lovegoostrey.com.
A handy “street map” of Goostrey is already available online at http://www.goostreyfootpaths.org.uk/roadmap.php.
The Group was responsible for the smart oak finger-posts around the village and, more recently (2013), worked with Cheshire East Council to create two new permanent footpaths linking Goostrey with Over Peover. A leaflet describing the new paths and detailing two new walks is available free from Goostrey Post Office and Village Store. Please contact Goostrey Footpaths Group if you have difficulty getting a copy.
We always welcome new members or supporters so, if you have an interest in our local footpaths, do get in touch with the Organiser and we will be pleased to tell you more about what we do and encourage you to get involved!
