Police in Holmes Chapel appeal for information

Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man died following a fail-to-stop collision in Holmes Chapel at 6.30pm on Friday 17 March.  Anyone with any information is urged to call 101 quoting incident number 735 of 17 March.
Cheshire Police received reports of an elderly man with serious injuries in London Road outside the library.

Emergency services attended the scene and the 77-year-old man was taken to North Staffordshire Hospital. Despite the best efforts of all involved he sadly died a short time later.

Officers have launched an investigation and are appealing to the public for help.
Inspector Simon Newell said: “We now know that the victim was involved in a collision in London Road around 6.30pm and the vehicle involved has failed to stop at the scene. Sadly, the elderly man has lost his life and we are now in the process of trying to piece together what has happened and to trace the driver and the vehicle involved.
“Were you in the London Road area around that time and have seen something significant? If so, I would urge you to come forward. This is a busy road at a busy time of day and someone must have seen or heard something, which could assist with our enquiries.
“The man’s family is currently being supported by specially trained officers at this very difficult time.
“I would urge anyone who has any information – no matter how small – to get in touch. Do you know someone who has returned home today with damage to their car? If so, this could be crucial and we would urge you to speak to us as part of our enquiries.
“I would also appeal to the driver of the vehicle to come forward and make contact.”
Anyone with any information is urged to call 101 quoting incident number 735 of 17 March.
