Princess Royal advocates 6-8 houses in villages

Princess Anne, patron of the English Rural Housing Trust, echoes LoveGoostrey’s views and asks: “Is it really necessary to only think in terms of large-scale developments…..where you require infrastructure to be installed?”

“Small, well designed developments of six to eight homes built in partnership with the community can often be the catalyst that keeps local services open”.  The princess suggested it would be more efficient to build small scale developments in existing communities, in a speech at a housing conference in Cheltenham.

Martin Collett, Operations Director of the English Rural Housing Association, said the Princess Royal had been a long-term advocate of village communities.

As Sky News’s political correspondent Anuskka Asthana points out, ‘Her comments will add fuel to the political debate over how to provide the number of homes needed without damaging the countryside.’

We welcome the support from The Princess Royal for our villages. However, there are even bigger issues which need to be confronted.
Residents of Twemlow Village have been fighting an application for an industrial scale waste plant in the village for the past two years.
We would hope The Princess Royal would apply the same support to residents opposing the industrialisation of their villages.
