Not only was The Goostrey Bonfire and Firework Night a lot of fun but it also raised nearly £5000 towards repaying the outstanding loan of £50,000 towards the new Scout Hut and youth centre.
For the first time on Bonfire Night, the car park of the new Scout Hut was the venue for hospitality – including BBQ food served by Scout helpers – and the funfair held in the play area behind the hut. The magnificent bonfire and fireworks took centre stage on the adjacent field.
Group Scout Leader, David Giles said: “Thanks to all who attended the Bonfire Night event and everyone who helped on the night to make it such a success. I am thrilled that the evening raised more than £4,750 – including a generous £1000 contribution from Barclays Bank from its “£ for £” scheme. ”
Even more money was raised by the scout section this month; a sponsored hike and lots of washing up!
The sponsored hike – postponed from late October – was held over the weekend of 18-19 November. More than £800 was raised by the 22 scouts and 10 leaders from 1st Goostrey Scouts when they walked a 40km section of the Sandstone trail over two days to raise funds for the Scout Hut and Youth Centre. The route was from Frodsham to Bickerton – passing both Beeston and Peckforton Castles. Congratulations to all the scouts, their families and their leaders!
Many thanks to all who sponsored our intrepid scouts, and if other residents would like to join in, donations would be very welcome at: https://mydonate.bt.com/events/sandstone17
The same weekend, other scouts who did the washing up after the senior citizens’ Christmas Lunch on 19 November “earned” a further £130 towards the Scout Hut, including a donation of £100 from Goostrey Parish Council. Well done all!
