Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School are advertising for a community governor to join their Board of Governors as soon as possible. If you have an interest in education and can commit to about 6 afternoons/evenings per term, and occasional events, they would like to hear from you. See below for details:
Following Sunday’s Christmas Lights Switch-on in Goostrey at the Bog Bean, Santa was seen visiting the western parts of Goostrey near the Trading Post on Wednesday eve. His sleigh is kindly sponsored by Holmes Chapel Rotary and supported by members of the 1st Goostrey Scout team – many thanks to all helpers as well as all those who kindly made donations to the cause.
Santa and his sleigh will be out in Goostrey again this Saturday 10th starting 5.30 – 6.00pm; route: (Main Road north side, Mill Lane, Woodlands, Buckbean Way, Brooklands Drive, Station Road, Main Road South to Long Shoot)
Tomas Lomax, seen in his Beaver uniform, and younger brother Zack loved seeing Father Christmas Wednesday evening, as did many other children in Goostrey.
Sainsbury’s have dropped plans for a 25,000 sq ft foodstore in Holmes Chapel on the site of the former Fisons Building on London Road and will be marketing the site shortly.
“Obviously this is disappointing news, but the market has changed considerably since we first announced our proposals, with more people shopping online and in convenience stores,” a spokesperson said.
The new store (approved in March 2014) would have created up to 175 full and part-time jobs and included 260 car parking spaces, a petrol station and recycling.
Fortunately for local residents the supermarket Aldi is currently under construction on Manor Lane, which will offer greater shopping convenience as well as regenerating a brownfield site.
